MMVLLEN, in partnership with the Maribyrnong City Council’s Youth Services, will host its 10th annual Try A Trade Event in Term 2, 2019 (date TBA).

Try A Trade is a free event and is a fun and interactive way for students to explore the world of trades. We take into account skill shortage areas and a majority of the exhibitors are local TAFE and Training providers.  Each stall holder provides an interactive activity that young people participate in to learn different workplace skills.

The 2018 Try A Trade Expo was a huge success on 25 May 2017 thanks to our strong working relationship with Maribyrnong Youth Services.

400 students from 18 local secondary schools engaged in hands-on activities to learn about the world of trades. We showcased 19 trades that ranged from bricklaying to hair and beauty to ensure that we cater for all students’ interests.

It was a great day and the feedback was just amazing. 93% of the students rated the event as either ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. And, 90% of students stated Try A Trade had increased their understanding of trades. We are very thrilled with those results and are already looking forward to next year’s event.

Information for local schools:

try-a-trade-schoolDid you know, 95.5% of teachers stated that the Try A Trade event in 2018 added value to their school/activities?!

Try A Trade presents as a great excursion opportunity for Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and 12 VCAL or any other students who may be interested in pursuing a trade or including VET in their studies. We have a great variety of trades to explore that can appeal to both male and females.

There are 3 session times to choose from that run between 9.15am and 3pm. Each school typically brings along a group of 50 students (negotiable).

Information for training providers:

try-a-trade-trainingIt will be a great opportunity to provide prospective students with information on your VET or TAFE courses and your pre-apprenticeships. Please, join us in making this a worthwhile and rewarding experience for young people in our local community.  We do not charge exhibitors to have a stall.  We simply want to link young people and their support teachers to relevant local opportunities.

If you would like to register your interest to exhibit at the next event and provide an interactive activity for young people, please contact us.
