What are School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships?
School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) provide secondary school students with the opportunity to combine a part-time job, school and vocational training. The program consists of a training contract with the employer along with a training plan signed by the school and leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
How we help?
Supporting students and teachers
Through our industry networks, we bridge the gap between schools, training organisations and employers to help create exciting and diverse opportunities for SBAT students. We are also able to lend personalised support; seeking out placements for students with additional needs or industry areas that are in high demand.
We help to build lasting relationships between schools and employers and are dedicated to creating the ideal outcome for all parties. To do this, we offer World of Work Workshops to prepare students for the world of work and conduct a follow up session with the host employer at the end of the SBAT placement. Additionally we train teachers in how to use the portal to find the most suitable high-quality opportunities for their students. As an organisation, we proudly 'walk the talk’ ourselves and offer many opportunities for SBAT students at mmvllen.
Finding apprenticeships and traineeships
The Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) statewide Portal assists SBAT students in discovering fantastic apprenticeships and traineeships all across Victoria. If you're a teacher that requires access to the portal, simply complete the access request form and we'll guide you through the next steps.

What’s involved?
• Year 10-12 students
• Between 6 - 12 month commitment
• Flexible arrangement: 1 day per week or in blocks
• Most costs are covered through a Group Training Organisation
• Support from mmvllen
• Insurance is covered
