Our Story

By bringing education, industry and community together, we create positive futures for young people facing barriers to employment.

We're the Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley Local Learning and Employment Network; you can call us mmvllen for short.
For some time, the young people of Melbourne's West have experienced higher rates of unemployment than the state average. On top of this, the COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact on the ability for young people across Victoria to access the job market. This is where we can help!

As a community organisation, mmvllen is committed to supporting young people who are having difficulty transitioning from school to further education or work by giving them the guidance, skills and opportunities they need to enter the next phase of their lives and career.

Over the last 21 years, we've developed an education and employment network that helps to create lasting positive outcomes for local youth. We're passionate about fostering a supportive community that invests in its young people to create a brighter future for Melbourne’s West.

Celebrating our 21st birthday

In May 2022, we brought schools, employers, community organisations, program participants and local government together for our 21st anniversary.

We reflected on our 21 year history, celebrated our community impact and thanked our partners and supporters for their help over the years.

Strategic Plan 2020 - 2023

In 2020, the mmvllen Committee of Management embarked on a thorough planning process that explored the future needs of young people connected to the Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley area. We saw an opportunity to respond to these needs whilst evolving into a more sustainable business.

Our Research

Environmental Scan

Each year, mmvllen conducts an Environmental Scan that provides a detailed summary and analysis of trends that affect the education, quality of life, and employment opportunities of young people within Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley area. This information works to inform and guide our stakeholders to equip young people with the tools needed to transition out of school and onto further education and employment.
